What a kuroko is
Kuroko Systems is named after a figure from Japanese theatre. In kabuki and bunraku, a 黒子 is the stagehand dressed head to toe in black: they move the scenery, hand an actor a prop mid-scene, and work the puppet, all in full view of the audience. Everyone can see them and nobody looks, because the black is an agreement — what matters is the performance, not the hands making it possible. But without those hands there is no performance. A kuroko is not a shadow. They are a professional the show depends on.
Why we chose that name
Good software works the same way. Nobody admires the login screen, the database migration that ran clean, or the check that caught a bad request before a customer ever felt it. People see the product and the business it moves — and behind each of those things is someone who made sure it happened.
It is also how we work with clients. The product carries your name, your brand, and your relationship with the customer. Ours is not on it. But we are there, and when something breaks there is someone to call.
What that means in practice
Decisions stay yours. We bring the options, what each one costs in time, money and trade-offs, and a reasoned recommendation. Then you decide, having seen how we got there.
The work is yours from day one. Code, infrastructure and documentation live in your accounts, clear and documented enough to build on. We intend to be with you long after launch — but because you chose us, not because you have no alternative.
And we tell you when an idea is a bad one. Staying behind the scenes is not the same as staying quiet: a stagehand who says nothing while the set collapses is not doing their job.
Who you are working with
A small team, working remotely across the United States and Israel. Small is deliberate: the person you talk to is the person writing the code, with no account-management layer in between, and nothing gets relayed through someone who has not read it.
